SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the past three weeks, players and coaches from the Susquehanna men’s basketball team have visited the second grade classroom of Mrs. Teresa O’Brien at Selinsgrove Elementary School to read to her class.
Every Thursday the Crusader coaching staff and 4-5 players visit her classroom to read to the second graders as part of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Reading Program.
“I strongly believe it is important to connect our players with the community and I cannot think of anything better than to get involved with the youth of the community,” head coach Frank Marcinek said. “Reading is a skill that is vital to being successful in life and it is important to get children excited about reading at a young age. I hope by our involvement in the NABC Reading Program we can influence children to read.”
“To make your dreams come true, you must be a good reader. Think big thoughts, Read to succeed. Dream to read.”
