SELISNGROVE, Pa. - Women’s swimming & diving and men’s basketball are represented as the Susquehanna Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Jan. 11. Freshman swimmer Joann Butkus (Barnesville, Pa./Tamaqua Area) and junior guard Josh Miller (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) have been selected for the award.

Butkus was key in Susquehanna’s two Landmark wins on Saturday as the Crusaders defeated Marywood, 182-89, and Juniata by a score of 200-55 to remain undefeated in conference dual meets. The freshman swam in three non-exhibition events and placed first in all of them.

She teamed with Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School), Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Jessica Jozefiak (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) to open the afternoon with a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.82. Butkus also claimed individual victories in the 100 breast (1:09.54) and 200 breast (2:34.94), with her latter time serving as a new personal best by nearly five seconds.

Earlier this season, Butkus set a school record in the 100 breast with her time of 1:08.03.

Miller averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest for the men’s basketball team in a 1-1 week that featured a 68-70 loss to No. 24 Scranton and an 82-67 win at USMMA.

Against Scranton, the junior scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added one steal, two assists and six rebounds in 34 minutes. In Saturday’s conference game at USMMA, Miller again hit double digits with 17 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 mark from three-point range, and chipped in two steals, four assists and seven rebounds.

He has started all 14 contests for the Crusaders who are currently 10-4 overall with a 3-2 mark in Landmark competition.

Butkus and the swimming & diving teams next compete at non-conference opponent Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Jan. 17. Men’s basketball resumes conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 14 when it travels to Juniata for a 7 p.m. game.
