Men’s Basketball Tabbed Third In Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – One season after finishing as runner-up in the Landmark Conference, the Susquehanna men's basketball team has been selected third for the 2014-15 season in a Landmark poll of coaches.

Last year's champion, Scranton, was picked unanimously to repeat and finished with 80 points and eight first-place votes. Catholic picked up the remaining first-place vote and placed second with 64 points, while Susquehanna took third with 51. Rounding out the poll were USMMA (38 points), Drew (30), Juniata (26), Landmark-newcomer Elizabethtown (25), Goucher (20) and Moravian (17).

Last season, SU earned the second seed in the Landmark behind an 8-6 conference record and an overall record of 17-10. Although the Crusaders must replace the production of several key seniors, they return, among others, junior guard Brandon Hedley (Silver Spring, Md./Salisbury Prep.), a member of the Landmark Conference Second Team in 2013-14, and sophomore Steven Weidlich (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills), who averaged 14.6 points per game as a freshman.

The team also features only one senior, guard Matt McGugan (Silver Spring, Md./Blake), and a talented freshman class.

Under the direction of 26th-year head coach Frank Marcinek, Susquehanna begins its campaign on Tuesday, Nov. 18 when the Crusaders host Lycoming in a 7 p.m. game.
