Crusaders Win Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – It's a 3-0 start for the Susquehanna men's basketball team as the Crusaders defeated King's 92-60 in the championship game of SU's annual Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament.

Susquehanna's Steven Weidlich, Brandon Hedley and Dan Weiss were named to the All-Tournament Team with Weiss earning Most Valuable Player honors. On Saturday Weiss had a game-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds – four offensive. Weidlich had 14 points and four assists and Hedley poured in 17 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc.

The team shot better than 53 percent for the game with a 46.7 percent effort from three-point range and finished with an 80 percent showing from the free throw line. The Crusaders had 50 rebounds to King's 24 while also holding the Monarchs (3-1) to a 21 percent effort from beyond the arc.

SU's Dalton Reichard opened the game with a three at the 19:09 mark and Susquehanna never looked back. Hedley's free throw with 14:20 on the clock put his team ahead by nine (13-4) and Reichard drained another three at the midway point of the half for a 12-point game (22-10).

King's pulled within single digits several times over the next few minutes but it stood 38-24 in favor of SU at the 2:36 mark and the Crusaders scored 10 of the final 13 points of the period to go into halftime leading 48-27.

Less than six minutes into the second half, Hedley's three made it a 29-point Crusader lead (63-34) and the Monarchs failed to pull any closer than 22 points over the remainder of the game. Jason Dietrich's three with 5:38 on the clock upped the lead to 30 (86-56) and SU went on to the eventual 92-60 victory.

Susquehanna hits the road to face Lycoming on Monday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m.
