SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's basketball team remained undefeated as SU defeated No. 22 The Catholic University of America 87-81 Wednesday night.
The Crusaders (6-0, 1-0) were down 5-2 early in the first half before a Josh Miller three pointer tied the game at five. However, the Cardinals (3-3, 0-1) answered back to take the lead, 10-7, when another trey from Miller knotted the game at 10.
A layup from Steven Weidlich gave Susquehanna its first lead of the game (12-10). Catholic would take the lead once again at the 11:52 mark on a three pointer by Jimmy Golaszewski (17-16) but it would be the last lead for the Cardinals.
At the 11:16, mark Miller sank another three-pointer for a 19-17 SU lead, one the Crusaders would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
Susquehanna took a 15-point lead with less than 90 seconds to go in the first half on a Brandon Hedley three. Catholic went on an 8-4 run but it was not enough as the Crusaders ended the half up 47-36.
Less than four minutes into the second half, the Crusaders upped their lead to 24 when Miller sank another three to bring the score to 62-38. With 2:47 to play, the Cardinals pulled within seven points (78-71) but it would not be enough as SU held on to win 87-81.
Five Susquehanna players hit double digit points with Miller leading all players with 26 points on the night – 18 of which came from behind the arch – while totaling nine rebounds.
Danny Weiss and Hedley totaled 15 points while Tyler Hoagland and Steven Weidlich tallied 14 and 13, respectively. Hoagland went 5-for-5 at the free throw line, four of which came with less than two minutes to play in the game.
The Crusaders hit the road on Saturday, Dec. 5 when they take on Landmark Conference opponent Merchant Marine at 2 p.m.
