Men’s Hoops Opens New Year with Another Victory

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The New Year started off with yet another win for the No. 17 Susquehanna men's basketball team which defeated Landmark Conference opponent Moravian 89-64 to remain undefeated this season.

The Crusaders (12-0, 3-0) shot an impressive 57 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three-point range, 75 percent at the free throw line and twice held a 30-point lead.

Josh Miller finished with a double-double for Susquehanna, scoring a game-high 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Tyler Hoagland countered with 15 points while Dan Weiss has 14 points and seven rebounds.

SU used a 53-point first half to effectively put the game out of reach early. Moravian (5-5, 1-2) scored just 32 points each half and shot 19 percent from beyond the arc.

Susquehanna took its first double-digit lead of the afternoon on Miller's layup just 4:08 into the game. Less than two minutes later it was a 15-point Crusader advantage (14-9) on Jason Dietrich's jumper.

With 8:51 still to play in the half, Hoagland's layup pushed SU's lead to 20 (35-15) and Miller made it 51-24 on a three-pointer at the 4:35 mark.

By the time the half came to a close, Susquehanna took a 52-32 edge into the locker room.

The Greyhounds pulled no closer than 18 points over the final 20 minutes of action. With 3:32 on the clock, Dalton Reichard's layup handed his team a 30-point lead (87-57) and it remained a 30-point advantage on a Zach Newby layup roughly 90 seconds later.

Susquehanna hits the road to face Landmark Conference rival Scranton on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. The Royals received six votes in the most recent poll.
