No. 11 Crusader Men Hold Off Eagles

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – It may not have been easy but in the end all that matters is that the No. 11 Susquehanna men's basketball team won its 15th-straight game with a 60-55 victory over visiting Juniata.

SU (15-0, 6-0) saw what had been an 18-point lead fall to just seven (57-50) with just 40 seconds left in the game but three late Susquehanna free throws render a Seth Brewer three with 11 seconds remaining meaningless.

Josh Miller led all players with 20 points while also adding eight rebounds and two steals. Brandon Hedley joined him in double figures with 17 points to go along with five assists. Steven Weidlich scored 10 points as the SU third player in double digits.

Susquehanna limited the Eagles (11-4, 4-2) to a 35.7 field goal percentage and forced 14 Juniata turnovers.

The largest lead in the first half was a mere five points which came early in the action when the Crusaders went up 5-0 on Hedley's three with 17:24 on the clock.

Juniata took a 10-9 lead less than 90 seconds later and from there the lead swapped sides with the Eagles leading 21-16 with 4:25 remaining.

SU ended the half on an 8-2 run to take a 24-23 edge at halftime thanks to Dan Weiss's free throw with just four seconds remaining.

The Crusaders came out strong to open the second half. They went up by 11, 42-31, on Miller's trey at the 13:36 mark and less than two minutes later, Weidlich's jumper gave his team a game-high 18-point lead (49-31).

That lead dwindled to single digits (51-43) on Brandon Martinazzi's jumper with 6:40 to play and it remained an eight-point contest (56-58) on Justin Fleming's layup five minutes later.

Weidlich's free throw with 41 seconds to play boosted SU's lead to nine, 57-48. Juniata trailed 57-50 with 40 seconds on the clock and was forced to foul. Weidlich connected on three free throws over a seven-second span that made it 60-52 to hold off the Eagles.
