SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna men's basketball player Steven Weidlich and women's track athlete Ashley West have been named the SAAC/Pepsi Super Crusaders for the week ending Feb. 7.
Weidlich started both games for No. 18 Susquehanna this past week. He averaged 19.5 points per game (ppg) with a week-high of 23 in the 74-71 win at Juniata. He also had 16 points at Moravian in the Crusaders' 88-66 win. He shot 48.3 percent for the week, including a 46.7 percent clip from beyond the arc, and went 4-4 at the free throw line. He also averaged 3.5 rebounds per game (rpg) and 3.0 assists per game.
This season, Weidlich has started all 20 games and is second on the team with his 16.0 ppg average. He leads the team in minutes per game (32.1), is shooting nearly 46 percent from the floor, 38 percent from the three-point range and 83 percent at the free throw line.
Susquehanna is 18-2 overall with a 9-2 mark in Landmark Conference action and an 8-0 record at home. The team returns to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when SU hosts Scranton for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Meanwhile, West finished second by just .06 seconds in a Susquehanna and Landmark Conference record time of 2:13.47 in the 800 meter run. Her mark now gives her the nine fastest 800 meter times in conference history. She is currently ranked fifth in NCAA Division III in the 800 as well as seventh in the mile.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Feb. 12 when they host the SU Invitational at 4:00 p.m.
