TOWSON, Md. – The No. 18 Susquehanna men's basketball defeated the Goucher Gophers on the road, 67-53.
Brandon Hedley led all players with 27 points, 18 of which were behind the three point arc. Danny Weiss followed with 16 points and a team-high seven boards while Steven Weidlich contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
SU shot 39.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the three-point range while going a perfect 9-9 at the free throw line. The Gophers were held to 34.9 percent from the field and only 10 percent (1-10) from behind the arc.
The Crusaders (20-3, 11-3) took an early 4-0 lead on a Weiss layup with 17:53 on the clock. The Gophers (9-15, 5-10) tied the game at six at the 15:32 mark and SU proceeded to go on a 9-4 run to take a five-point lead (15-10) with 12:17 remaining in the half.
Goucher took its only lead of the night (18-17) on a Kevin Miles jumper with 8:02 on the clock. Susquehanna regained the lead two and half minutes later on two Weiss free throws that made it 19-18. From this point on the Crusaders never looked back and ended the half on a 16-2 run that sent them into the locker room ahead 35-20.
During the second half, the Susquehanna defense never let Goucher get closer than six points, which came at the 6:56 mark on a Troy Deshields jump shot. The Crusaders increased their lead to 13 with 2:52 remaining in the game on Dalton Reichard free throws and proceeded to hold on for the 67-53 win.
Susquehanna has a quick turn-around as the team returns home on Thursday, Feb. 18 to host Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference make-up game from Monday, Feb. 16.
