INDIANAPOLIS, Ind, (December 1, 2016) – Steven Weidlich is being recognized nationally for his work in the community.

Weidlich, a senior guard is a nominee to the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team. This annual honor is a joint effort of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Allstate to recognize dedication to service in student-athletes' communities.

Weidlich makes his first appearance on the Good Works Team. Weidlich is involved in a wide range of community service projects. Steven helps those less fortunate via food drives, working in soup kitchens, accompanying those with mental disabilities to Catholic Mass weekly and reading to elementary students. This summer he started a campaign to raise awareness around the community and campus regarding throat cancer, after head coach Frank Marcinek was diagnosed last spring. Weidlich raised money to be donated to Throat Cancer Foundation, through the sales of bracelets.

A two-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, Weidlich maintains a 3.604 GPA, majoring in Finance. He also excels on the court, twice named All-Conference. He led last year's team to their most successful season, with a record of 24-5 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. As a junior he already scored his 1000th point and will go down as one of the greatest players to play at Susquehanna.

Athletic departments and sports information directors across the country nominated the 181 NABC and the 97 WBCA student-athletes for the prestigious honor. Two special voting panels, headlined by former Duke University basketball athlete, two-time NCAA® champion and seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill, and former Notre Dame basketball star, two-time Nancy Lieberman Award winner and current WNBA player Skylar Diggins, will select 10-member teams from both the NABC and WBCA, comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.
