Denny Bowers '00, a former four-year starter for the Susquehanna University baseball team, ended his fifth season as the team's head coach in 2010.

After serving as an assistant coach for five years, Bowers was named the head coach in the summer of 2005. He earned Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2006 when he led the Crusaders to fifth place out of eight teams in the MAC Commonwealth following five straight last-place finishes. In 2009, Susquehanna continued its upward swing by capturing the Landmark Conference's regular-season championship.

Bowers started as a pitcher during his freshman year at Susquehanna before taking a regular spot in the field the next three seasons. He posted a career batting average of .371. In 1998, he batted .435 with three homeruns and 25 RBI en route to earning all-MAC honors. He appeared in 28 games as a pitcher during his career and struck out 82 batters in 116 2/3 innings.

Bowers was also a two-time first-team all-MAC Commonwealth player for Susquehanna football. He was an all-region honoree and the conference's Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1999 after making 35 tackles, including seven sacks, and blocking three kicks. He is ranked second in Crusaders history in both tackles for a loss and yardage lost on those tackles. He is fourth all-time in sacks.

Bowers also serves as SU's equipment manager and resides in Watsontown, Pa., with his wife, Amy; daughter, Elle; and son, Jackson.

He is a member of the SU Sports Hall of Fame.
