Denny Bowers '00, a former four-year starter for the Susquehanna
University baseball team, ended his fourth season as the team's
head coach in 2009.
After serving as an assistant coach for five years, Bowers was
named the head coach in the summer of 2005. He earned Middle
Atlantic Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2006
when he led the Crusaders to fifth place out of eight teams in the
conference following five straight last-place finishes. In 2009, SU
continued its upward swing by capturing the Landmark regular-season
championship.
Bowers started as a pitcher at Susquehanna during his freshman
year before taking a regular spot in the field the next three
seasons. He posted a career batting average of .371 with 108 hits
and 68 runs batted in in 99 games. In 1998, he batted .435 with
three homeruns and 25 RBI en route to earning all-MAC honors. He
appeared in 28 games as a pitcher during his career and struck out
82 batters in 116 2/3 innings.
Bowers was also a two-time first-team all-MAC Commonwealth player
for Susquehanna football. He was an all-region honoree and the
MAC's Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1999 after making 35
tackles, including seven sacks, and blocking three kicks. He is
ranked second in Crusaders history in both tackles for a loss and
yardage lost on those tackles. He is fourth all-time in sacks.
Bowers also serves as SU's equipment manager and resides in
Watsontown, Pa., with his wife, Amy, and daughter, Elle.
He is a member of the SU Sports Hall of Fame.
Slivinski finished his third year as an assistant coach with the
Susquehanna baseball team in 2009.
He is a 2003 graduate of Albright College, where he pitched,
played centerfield and and put up a career batting average of .311.
In 2003, he earned first-team all-MAC honors while tying for second
in NCAA Division III in saves. He holds the career and
single-season saves records for the Lions.
Slivinski served as an assistant coach at Albright during the 2004
season before taking a coaching job at Great Mills (Md.) High
School, where he helped the team to the state quarterfinals.
Before college, he pitched and played centerfield at local
Selinsgrove (Pa.) High School. He now plays competitively for the
Northumberland Diamondbacks in the North Branch League, based in
Sunbury, Pa.
Outside of baseball, Slivinski works as a local attorney.
