Frank Marcinek completed his 20th season on the Susquehanna
University sidelines with the 2008-09 campaign. He is the
winningest head coach in the 106-season history of the Susquehanna
men's basketball team.
When the Crusaders defeated Penn State University-Altoona, 89-77,
in the 2003-04 season opener, Marcinek surpassed the mark of 201
wins set by his predecessor--longtime SU head coach and director of
athletics Don Harnum. Marcinek boasts a 276-227 career record that
translates into a .549 winning percentage.
During his tenure, Marcinek has guided 12 of his 20 teams to a
playoffs berth, including the 2008-09 squad, with 15 of those teams
finishing with winning records.
In 2002-03, his efforts were recognized by his colleagues, as he
was named Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year
for the first time after leading the Crusaders to an 18-8 record
and the MAC Commonwealth regular-season championship. He and his
assistants earned the 2008-09 Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of
the Year award as well.
The Crusaders have made two trips to the NCAA Division III
playoffs (1991-92 and 1993-94) under Marcinek, won MAC Northwest
Division titles in 1989-90 and 1992-93, captured the MAC Northern
Division crown in 1991-92, won MAC Commonwealth regular-season
titles in 1995-96 and 2002-03 and claimed the inaugural Landmark
regular-season championship in 2007-08.
Prior to becoming Susquehanna's head coach, Marcinek served five
years as an assistant coach under Harnum (1982-83 to 1985-86 and
1988-89). During that time, the Crusaders made three trips to the
Division III playoffs and won two MAC Northern Division titles.
Marcinek was an assistant for two seasons (1986-87 and 1987-88) at
Division III Ithaca College while he earned his Master of Science
degree in physical education.
In addition to his coaching duties, Marcinek has served as an
assistant director of athletics at SU since September 2003.
A 1981 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of
Science degree in physical education, Marcinek and his wife, Cindy,
live in Shamokin, Pa., with their sons, Scott and Frank Jr. Frank
Jr. is a member of the Crusaders men's basketball team.
Chad Bailey finished his eighth season on the Crusaders coaching
staff in 2008-09. Bailey is involved in all aspects of the program
and is responsible for coordinating recruiting.
A native of Mifflinburg, Pa., and a 1988 graduate of Mifflinburg
Area High School, Bailey began his collegiate playing career at
Division III York College of Pennsylvania before transferring to
Division III Lycoming College. He graduated in 1992 from Lycoming
with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and began his coaching
career at Athens (Pa.) Area High School that fall.
After coaching junior varsity high school basketball at Athens for
one year, Bailey coached junior high school basketball at Milton
(Pa.) Middle School for several years before becoming an assistant
coach at the Pennsylvania College of Technology for the 1999-2000
season.
During the 2000-01 season, Bailey returned to Lycoming and served
as an assistant basketball coach before coming to Susquehanna in
time for the 2001-02 season.
Bailey is a math teacher at Mifflinburg and is also the head golf
coach there. He resides in Lewisburg, Pa., with his wife, Jocelyn.
T.J. Jordan joined Crusaders men's basketball as an assistant
coach in time for the 2009-10 season.
Jordan graduated in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in political
science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he played
basketball for four years. He helped St. Mary's win the 2008
Capital Athletic Conference championship and reach the Division III
Sweet Sixteen while earning a school Athletic Director Award for
team leadership.
He most recently served as the head coach of the Bel Air (Md.)
High School boys' varsity basketball team during the 2008-09
season.
Mark Prusch '06 rejoined Crusaders men's basketball as an
assistant coach in time for the 2009-10 season.
Prusch, who played for SU from 2001-05 and served as an assistant
coach for the Division III Crusaders from 2005-07, recently served
as a men's graduate assistant for Division II Bloomsburg University
during the 2007-08 season.
He helped Susquehanna win its first outright Middle Atlantic
Commonwealth Conference regular-season championship in 2003 and
earned a bachelor's degree in communications from the university in
December 2005.
