NORMAN, Okla. -- The Golf Coaches Association of America honored Susquehanna University's senior Mitch Mercer (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) and freshman Pat Wilson (Andover, N.J./Newton) with inclusion on its 2009-10 NCAA Division III PING all-Mid-Atlantic Region team on May 11.
Mercer, a participant in the 2009-10 Division III championships, earned the Empire 8 Athletic Conference individual title and Player of the Year award this season while leading Susquehanna to the Empire 8 team title.
He has golfed in 11 events this season (prior to the NCAA championships), averaging a score of 72.76 strokes--just 1.59 strokes over par. That average is best in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
He has placed first in five events this season after placing first in six events during the 2008-09 season and earning a Division III PING All-America honor. He has 12 career first-place finishes.
The Empire 8 honored Mercer as its men's golf Player of the Week eight times during the 2009-10 season.
Wilson earned the Empire 8's Freshman of the Year award after a third-place finish at the conference championships, good for a first-team all-conference honor.
He averaged a score of 76.82 strokes during the 2009-10 season--5.65 strokes over par--and tied for second place at two events.
Both players are eligible for PING All-America awards this season.
