GLENMAURA, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s golf team recorded its highest team finish of the spring as the Crusaders tied for third overall at the Glenmaura National College Invitational. SU shot a 620 over the two-day event and finished just 12 shots behind the overall winner, Scranton.

Susquehanna shot a 308 in the first round before posting a 312 on day two. The Crusaders were one of 11 teams competing at the annual Invitational and shared the number three spot with Elizabethtown.

Stephen Welkie (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) finished as SU’s top individual. He shot a two-day total of 150 tie for fourth overall. The freshman shot a 71 on day one and 79 in Monday’s second round.

John Jacques (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) earned a share of the 17th overall spot with a score of 156. Teammates Kevin Willett (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Ryan Redfern (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) both tied for 21st with a score of 157, with Willett shooting a team-best 75 on Monday. Freshman Anthony Canarie (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) shot a 178 to tie for 52nd.

There was a one-hole, four-score cumulative playoff between McDaniel and Scranton to determine the team champion. The tie for the individual title between Elizabethtown’s Geoffrey Quinque and McDaniel’s Greg Bowman was determined by a match of cards.
