Golf Takes First at Spring Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s golf team wrapped-up its 2011 spring season on a high note by winning its own annual SU Spring Invitational. The Crusaders placed first out of the 14-team field with a team score of 310.

Susquehanna finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Manhattan (313). It was a true team effort for SU as none of its five golfers finished in the top three but all had solid rounds to propel the team to the top.

Three golfers finished the day shooting a 77 in Teague Emery (Earlville, Pa./Coventry Christian), John Jaques (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and Ryan Redfern (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell). Steve Welkie (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, shot a 79 and Kevin Willett (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) rounded out the group with an 83.

Manhattan’s Chris Calabro took home the overall individual title by shooting a 75.
