SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s golf team returned to the links on Saturday as the Crusaders hosted their annual SU Fall Invitational the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. SU’s “B” team placed third overall while the “A” squad came in seventh out of the 10 squads at the tournament.
The “B” team posted an overall score of 309 to tie with Scranton for third. The “A” squad put together a cumulative score of 318 to take seventh.
Manhattan took the overall title with a team score of 299. Jaspers golfer Matt Creamer also took home the top individual score by shooting a 71 on the par 70 course. He shot a 32 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine.
For SU, sophomore Steve Welkie (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) led both squads with a 73 (38, 38). He finished seven strokes ahead of his next closest teammate on the A squad (Patrick DiMartino – 80).
For the third-place “B” team, Donny DeRemer (Shavertown, Pa./Holy Redeemer) had the group’s top score with a 75 (36, 39). Teammate Patrick Neal (Pylesville, Md.), also shot a 77 (38, 39). Also finishing under 80 were Ryan Bruvik (Skillman, N.J.) (78) and Kevin Phelan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte County Day School) (79).
The Crusaders return to action on Monday at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
