Solid Second Day Leads to Fifth-Place Finish for Golf

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s golf team used an impressive second day at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic to move from 10th to fifth place at the two-day event hosted by McDaniel College.

SU finished Saturday’s first round in 10th place with a score of 323 before shooting a score of 300, the second-best Sunday score, to move up to fifth overall. Over the two days, the Crusaders shot a combined 623. Host McDaniel took home the title with a two-day score of 603.

Sophomore Stephen Welkie (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), the reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, took second overall with a score of 146 (75, 71). His score of 71 was tied for the best mark on Sunday.

Senior John Jacques (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) finished in the top 30 of the 70-player field with a two-day score of 159 (88, 71)

SU wraps-up its fall season next on Oct. 16 and 17 at the Nazareth Invitational.
