HERSHEY, Pa. – Susquehanna's men's golf team finished in fifth place at the 2013 Empire 8 Men's Golf Championships, held Saturday through Sunday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.
At the par-71, 7061 yard course, the Crusaders shot 1344 on the 72-hole championship. St. John Fisher captured the title, its eighth championship in the last nine years. Thad Wier of St. John Fisher took home the Player of the Year award.
Stephen Welkie (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) finished tied for 15th after turning in a 333. The junior shot an 83 and 87 in the first two rounds, respectively, followed by an 82 and 81 to round out the championship.
Freshman Dylan Gladd (Rensselaer, N.Y. / Columbia) shot a team-low 79 in the third round and finished four strokes back of Welkie, with 337, good for 21st place. Sophomore Ryan Bruvik (Skillman, N.J. / The Hun School) ended with 340, tying for 26th.
Junior Anthony Canarie (South Portland, Maine / South Portland) shot a 348, followed by sophomore Don DeRemer (Shavertown, Pa. / Holy Redeemer) who turned in a 352. Freshman Griffin Drury (Spring City, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts) rounded out the scoring for the Crusaders with a 360.
