ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Susquehanna junior golfer Steve Welkie (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) won the individual title at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic and his team finished third overall at the two-day tournament.
Welkie shot a two-day total of 146 (+2), highlighted by shooting a 72 on Saturday. As a team, the Crusaders shot a 629 (+53) to take third, five strokes ahead of Gettysburg which placed fourth. McDaniel won the tournament with a score of 605 (+29) and Dickinson took second (623 (+47).
Ryan Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./The Hun School) joined Welkie in the top 20 as his 159 (+15) was good for 18th overall. Teammate Donny DeReamer (Shavertown, Pa./Holy Redeemer) earned the 25th spot by shooting a 161 and the team was rounded out by a 163 from Kevin Phelan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte County Day School) and a 172 from Anthony Canarie (South Portland, Maine/South Portland).
The team caps off its fall season on Oct. 14-15 at the Stevenson Invitational.
