SAAC Team of the Week Spotlight: Men’s Golf

Beginning this 2014-15 academic year, Susquehanna's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will highlight one or two varsity Crusader teams each week. The purpose is to give fans an in-depth look at a team's season so far, what is on the horizon for each team as well as some standout individual performances by members of each

The Team of the Week Spotlight continues with men's golf. The Crusaders just wrapped up their 2014 fall season in early October.

How Do They Look?

The men's golf team ended the fall season on a high note with a first-place finish at its SU Fall Invitational on Monday, Oct. 6. A photo gallery can be found here.

Earlier this season, the team earned sixth-place finishes at both the Gettysburg Invitational and the Empire 8 Fall Championships. The squad also competed at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic last weekend and finished ninth.

What's Coming Up?

The team is off for a few months until the start of the spring season.

Faces in the Crowd

At the helm of the Crusaders is third-year head coach Buddy Yarger '05, who won an individual Middle Athletic Conference (MAC) Title in his senior year at Susquehanna.

Freshman William McCafferty (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) claimed the individual title at the SU Fall Invitational with a 75 (+5), not far ahead of teammate Kevin Phelan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte County Day School), who placed second after carding a 76 (+6).

Other standouts include Ryan Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./The Hun School), who tied for eighth at the Gettysburg Invitational with a 79 (+7), and Matthew Schaffner (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia), who shot a 78 (+8) to tie for 25th at Muhlenberg.

Where and When Can You See Them?

The Crusaders are off until the spring, but fans will be able to see them at the SU Spring Invitational hosted at Susquehanna Valley Country Club next year. The date of the tournament is yet to be announced.
