NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Susquehanna University's freshman attack
Billy Spack (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) notched two goals and one
assist, but visiting Susquehanna lost to Christopher Newport
University, 8-4, in a non-conference game at Captains Field on
March 7.
Spack's goals came back-to-back late in the second quarter, but
they were too little too late for the Crusaders (1-2 overall),
which still trailed, 6-3, following the two scores. Christopher
Newport (3-1 overall) scored the game's first five goals, all in
the first quarter.
Both teams scored a goal each in the third quarter to keep the
difference at three. CNU scored again in the fourth quarter for the
final score.
Also notching goals for SU were freshman midfielder Matt Weiner
(Bound Brook, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) and senior
midfielder Greg Norris (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris).
Norris now has 99 career points. Junior midfielder John D'Anna
[Fayetteville, N.Y./Spring-Ford Area (Pa.)] and freshman attack
Luke Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) both had one assist.
Sophomore midfielder Ryan Oakes (North Yarmouth, Maine/Cheverus)
won a game-high nine faceoffs on 15 attempts for the Crusaders and
scooped up a team-high six ground balls. Junior midfielder Tom
Jakubowski (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford Area) collected four ground
balls.
Freshman Bill Davis (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) made two
saves in 30 minutes but took the loss in goal. Freshman Anthony
Maiorella (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) made a team-high
three saves while rotating with a third SU goalkeeper in the second
half.
Susquehanna held the advantage in ground balls, 32-27. Neither SU
(0-for-1) nor CNU (0-for-4) could score during man-up play.
