Susquehanna University Finishes Third in Final 2008-09 Landmark Conference President's All-Sports Cup Standings
MADISON, N.J., June 3 -- Following the conclusion of the spring
season, Susquehanna University finished in third place out of eight
institutions in the final 2008-09 Landmark Conference President's
All-Sports Cup standings.
Susquehanna, which led the standings after this past fall season
and ranked second after the winter season, earned 6.538 points this
past academic year, behind only Moravian College's 7.222 and The
University of Scranton's 6.719. Juniata College finished fourth
with 5.985 points.
SU improved on its fifth-place finish in the standings from a year
ago with the help of strong showings from its baseball and softball
teams in the spring. The Crusaders captured the Landmark
regular-season baseball championship and finished as the
regular-season and postseason runners-up in softball.
Susquehanna doubled its conference postseason championships count
from last academic year by winning four in 2008-09 (men's soccer,
men's and women's cross country and men's indoor track &
field).
In addition to baseball and softball, SU also qualified for
postseason tournaments in women's volleyball, field hockey and
men's and women's basketball. Susquehanna women's volleyball, men's
basketball, women's swimming & diving, women's indoor track
& field and men's outdoor track & field all finished as
Landmark runners-up.
The Landmark All-Sports Cup is awarded based on a formula that
rewards institutions for their finishes in regular-season
conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason
play. The formula also takes into account the number of sports that
a school sponsors.
Susquehanna sponsors all 20 Landmark sports.
