SELINSGROVE, Pa. – An offensive outburst propelled the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team to a 19-7 win over visiting Immaculata on Wednesday evening, capping off a three-game homestand.
Five different players had multi-goal games, led by five goals from Luke Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) and three scores from Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley). Breakey also added three assists and in total, nine different players netted goals for SU (4-4).
The Crusaders took 46 shots to Immaculata's (0-7) 39, had 37 ground balls, won 16 of 30 face-offs and capitalized on both of their man-up opportunities.
Three goalies played in net for SU with Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) playing 39:49 of the game and racking up 12 saves.
It was 7-0 in favor of Susquehanna after less than 13 minutes of action, with two goals from both Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Breakey, as the Crusaders ended the opening quarter by out-scoring the Mighty Macs 8-1.
Both squads put up three goals in the second quarter and Immaculata recorded the final goal of the half with 3:47 to play to make it an 11-4 score at halftime.
The Crusader defense really buckled down for the final 30 minutes, giving up just three goals the rest of the way while the offense added seven more goals during that span. Six different players accounted for SU's six third-quarter goals as the quarter ended with Susquehanna ahead 17-5.
SU scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to go up 19-5 and two late-game Immaculata goes did nothing to affect the outcome.
The Crusaders are on the road this weekend and return to Landmark Conference action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at USMMA.
