Trio of Men’s Lax Players Earn All-League Status

MADISON, N.J. – Three Susquehanna men's lacrosse players earned All-Landmark Conference honors on Thursday afternoon. Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola) was named to the First Team while Dave Rinaldi (Higham, Mass./Boston College HS) and Trae Humphreys (Wilmington, Del./Sanford) earned Second Team nods.

All three players served as team captains this season, Cheatham and Rinaldi as juniors and Humphreys as a senior.

Cheatham, a junior short stick defensive midfielder, picks up the third All-League award of his career and second First Team honor. This season, Cheatham started 11 of 16 games this season and was second on the team with 73 ground balls and was third with nine caused turnovers. He also chipped in five goals and three assists for eight points.

A team captain, he now has 230 career ground balls, 16 goals, 10 assists and 26 points. Cheatham has played in 46 games, including 16 each of the last two seasons. He was a First-Team honoree and Rookie of the Year in 2010.

Rinaldi picks up his first career All-League accolade. This season, he started 14 of the 16 games in which he played and finished with 31 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers, most on the team. He also chipped in an assist, the first of his career.

Rinaldi and the SU defense gave up 10 goals or more in only three games this season and twice held opponents to just three goals and another to only two goals.

Finally, Humphreys earned a spot on the Second Team as a face-off specialist. The senior also appeared in all 16 games and had a team-high 81 ground balls and won 138-of-243 face-offs (.568) in his first season as the team's regular face-off specialist. Humphreys also added a goal, the first of his career.

The Crusaders finished their 2012 campaign with a 9-7 record, including a 3-3 mark in conference play.
