SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A 10-5 home win on Saturday for the Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team kept the team undefeated at home as well as 2-0 in Landmark Conference play.
The Crusaders (7-3, 2-0) have now won three games in a row as well as three-straight over the Mariners (4-3, 1-1).
Goalie Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had a huge game in net for Susquehanna. He racked up 14 saves with eight in the second half. Torrence and the Crusader defense helped limit the Mariners to only five goals that included a scoreless first quarter.
SU edged USMMA in most categories, including shots (44-38) and ground balls (28-24) and split face-offs with nine wins for each side.
John Kerrigan (Maple Glen, Pa./La Salle College HS) netted three goals while Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) added two goals and a game-high three assists. They were just two of six players with multi-point games for Susquehanna.
Kerrigan opened the game with back-to-back goals for a 2-0 SU lead and Ryan Natusch (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) ended the first-quarter scoring with his lone goal of the game for 3-0 score.
USMMA took just 49 seconds into the second quarter to find the back of the net to make it 3-1 but the Crusaders closed out the quarter by scoring four of the final five goals including a Kerrigan man-up goal with 1:53 on the clock that made it 7-2.
Both teams added two goals apiece in the third quarter to keep it a five-goal game (9-4) heading into the final 15 minutes of action.
USMMA scored the first goal of the final quarter to get within four of the lead (9-5) but Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added an insurance goal with 7:59 to play that marked the final goal of the game and preserved SU’s 10-5 victory.
SU hits the road on March 29 to face Goucher at 4 p.m.
