SCRANTON, Pa. – In a crucial Landmark Conference game, Susquehanna men’s lacrosse fell at Scranton 9-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders (8-5, 3-2) surrendered four first-quarter goals to the Royals (8-4, 4-0) before notching their first goal, an unassisted score by Nick Kifolo (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area)--his first of the season--to cut the deficit to 4-1.
SU cut the lead in half (4-2) when Connor Moran (Delafield, Wisc. / Kettle Moraine) ripped in his 17th goal of the year at the 13:27 mark of the second period. The Royals tallied another goal before halftime to take a 5-2 lead into intermission.
In the third quarter, Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J. / Madison) took a feed from Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) and scored a man-up goal to again cut the Royals lead in half (6-3) with 2:46 remaining in the period. Unfortunately, Scranton scored three unanswered goals the rest of the contest and came away with the 9-3 win.
Statiscally, the game was fairly close as the Royals edged the Crusaders in shot (29 to 25) and ground balls (40 to 34). Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) made 10 saves in goal and Kade MacGregor (Centreville, Md. / Queen Anne’s County) had a team-high six ground balls. Peter Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) went 6-for-15 in the faceoff circle.
