SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After leading Susquehanna men’s lacrosse to its first-ever Landmark Conference title, freshman attack Connor Moran (Delafield, Wisc. / Kettle-Moraine) and senior goalkeeper Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) have been named the Landmark Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the period ending May 5.
Moran accounted for half of the Crusaders’ goals on Saturday, registering a hat trick in the championship against Merchant Marine (W, 6-3). He notched the contest’s first goal with 11:25 in the first period and scored his second only 13 seconds into the second half. Moran’s third score made the contest 6-3 with 1:43 remaining in the game.
Earlier in the week, Moran lifted SU over Scranton 7-4 in the semifinals with another hat trick. The freshman took a game-high eight shots and added an assist versus the Royals.
In 2013, Moran has started all 18 games for SU (12-6). He is second on the team in goals (26) and assists (22) and leads the team with 114 shots.
Torrence recorded eight saves on 11 shots faced and picked up two groundballs against the Mariners on Saturday. He allowed Merchant Marine’s first score with 4:34 left in the third period.
Against Scranton on Wednesday, Torrence made 11 saves on 15 shots. In 2013, Torrence has started 13 games and has an 8-5 record, playing nearly 786 minutes. He has a 6.85 goals-against average, .596 save percentage and 134 saves.
The Crusaders head to No. 8 Salisbury (14-5) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for the NCAA Division-III Men’s Lacrosse opening round.
