Face Offs Won
SALISBURY, Md. – No. 8 Salisbury jumped out to a commanding 12-1 halftime lead as Susquehanna’s men’s lacrosse team fell to the Seagulls in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Tournament 22-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior John Kerrigan (Maple Glen, Pa. / La Salle College HS) accounted for both of the Crusaders' (12-7) goals with a pair of unassisted scores. His first came with 1:19 left in the first half and his second was with 5:07 remaining in the third quarter.
The Seagulls (15-5) out-shot the Crusaders 55-19. Senior goalkeeper Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) made 12 saves in between the pipes. He closes out his SU career as the all-time wins leader with 16 victories.
Freshman Mike Mainero (Kinnelon, N.J. / Kinnelon) had a game-high five groundballs for SU and won 5-of-11 faceoff opportunities.
The loss ends the Crusaders’ historic season, as SU set a program record for wins (12) and won its first-ever conference title by defeating USMMA 6-3 last Saturday to earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
