Solid Defense Helps Lead SU Men’s Lax to Win

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team gave up a season-low four goals en route to an 11-4 win at Arcadia on Saturday afternoon.

The team shut out the Knights in two of the four quarters and scored at least two of its own in each quarter. Nick Citron (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led all scorers with three goals while also chipping in an assist. Jacob Farrell (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) picked up two goals and Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) had a game-high four assists to go along with a goal.

Three different goalies saw playing time with Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) getting the start and playing the first 30 minutes and finishing with five saves. Ted Benoit (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) played the next 26:31, picking up two saves, and Jonathan Berg (Chester, Pa./Mendham) had one save in his 3:29 minutes of action.

SU had 35 shots to Arcadia's 25 and won 11-of-19 face-offs.

The Crusaders scored all three first-quarter goals, all from three different players. Pat Brogan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) continued the scoring streak with a goal at the 12:12 mark of the second half to make it 4-0.

The Knight's scored the next two goals for a 4-2 ballgame before Citron scored the final goal of the half with 3:36 remaining to make it 5-2 at halftime.

The third quarter saw SU blank Arcadia 2-0 with Citron and Greg Budd (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) scoring goals to pad the Crusaders' lead to 7-2 with just one quarter to play.

The fourth quarter saw a combined six goals with the Knights scoring the first to make it 7-3. However, Susquehanna rattled off four unanswered goals in just over three minutes of play for an 11-3 edge with just 2:51 to play.

Arcadia's Austin Morris scored the final goal of the game but with just 1:01 remaining the Crusaders' lead was more than safe.

SU travels to Messiah on March 19 for a 4 p.m. game.
