Men’s Lacrosse Remains Undefeated

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's defense stepped up yet again to help guide the Crusader men's lacrosse team to a 5-0 start to the season with a 7-2 home win over Lycoming on Sunday.

The two goals allowed match the lowest total since a March 2, 2013 win against Hood. On Sunday, SU shut out the Warriors (0-4) in the first and third quarters and surrendered just one goal in the second and final quarters.

Goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) racked up 12 saves and SU defender Kade MacGregor (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) had three caused turnovers to go along with four ground balls.

Chet McLaughlin (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led the offense with a five-point afternoon (four goals, one assist) and Nick Reardon tallied two goals and an assist. Phil Lapone (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) led all players with three assists.

The first two Crusader goals were man-up scores from Reardon and McLaughlin with McLaughlin later netting a goal with a mere 24 seconds left in the quarter to make it 3-0.

Nick Kifolo (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) upped it to a 4-0 lead on a goal just two minutes into the second period before Lycoming finally got on the board with a score at the 10:47 mark. McLaughlin struck again, though, scoring with 1:15 remaining in the half to give his squad the 5-1 halftime advantage.

Neither team put the ball in the back of the net in the third quarter but McLaughlin and Reardon teamed up to score the first and final goals of the fourth quarter for an eventual 7-2 victory.
