Men’s Lacrosse Drops First Game of 2015

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season, falling 7-5 at Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference opener for both squads.

SU (6-1, 0-1) pulled within two of the lead, 7-5, on a Nick Reardon (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) goal with 3:22 left in regulation but the Blue Jays (5-2, 1-0) shut out the Crusaders for the remaining minutes of the game to hold on for the win.

Elizabethtown had 33 shots to SU's 19 but Susquehanna held Elizabethtown to a 0-for-5 performance in man-up opportunities.

Phil Lapone (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) led Susquehanna with two goals while Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace) added one goal and one assist. Goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) had eight saves - six in the first half – in his 60 minutes of work.

The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead just six minutes into the game before three unanswered goals by the Crusaders – from three different players – gave SU a 3-2 edge as the first quarter came to a close.

Elizabethtown scored the only two goals of the second quarter, though, to take a slim, 4-3 advantage into halftime.

The Blue Jays netted the first two goals of the third quarter to make it 6-3 with 8:44 to play in the period. At the 4:49 mark of the quarter, Lapone broke Elizabethtown's scoring streak for a 6-4 game heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Elizabethtown's Cody Larkin scored with 4:35 remaining to up his team's lead to three (7-4). Just over a minute later, Reardon responded with a goal to make it 7-5. Neither team had a shot for the remaining 3:22 of the game, though, allowing the Blue Jays to pick up the win.
