Men’s Lacrosse Clinches No. 2 Seed on Senior Day

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – With Saturday's 9-5 home win against Catholic University, the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team locked in the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament. The victory was SU's 12th of the spring, tying the program record in single-season wins.

The Crusaders will host No. 3 seed Scranton on April 29 at 4 p.m. SU defeated the Royals 8-7 in overtime earlier this month.

The game was tied at three after one quarter of play before the Crusaders out-scored Catholic 4-1 in the second quarter and never looked back.

Nine different players scored for Susquehanna (12-3, 6-1). Four of those players also added an assist to finish with two points on the afternoon.

Senior goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) racked up 14 saves in his 60 minutes of work as he and the rest of the SU defense gave up just two goals over the final three quarter of the game.

The teams swapped goals in the first quarter with J.A. Howland's (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) goal at the 1:46 mark tying the game at three, which remained the score at the end of the period.

Catholic's Ethan Rodriguez scored a man-up goal just 23 seconds in the second quarter to put his team up 4-3 but Susquehanna countered with four unanswered goals. Senior Phil Lapone's (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) score just inside the five-minute mark stood as the final goal of the half and the Crusaders took a 7-4 lead into halftime.

Again the Cardinals scored the first goal of the quarter, making it a two-goal game (7-5). However, Nick Reardon (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Nick Kifolo (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) scored the final two goals of the period for a 9-5 SU lead with just 15 minutes remaining.

Neither team found the back of the net in the fourth quarter to preserve the Crusaders' 9-5 victory and secure the No. 2 seed.
