Men’s Lacrosse Picks Up Conference Win

BALTIMORE, Md. – Down 4-3 at halftime, the Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team rallied to defeat Landmark Conference opponent Drew 11-6 on Friday evening in Baltimore. The teams squared off at Johns Hopkins’ Homewood Field in a neutral site night game.

The Crusaders (7-3, 1-1) out-scored the Rangers (1-6, 0-2) 8-2 over the final 30 minutes of play. Nick Reardon had two goals and three assists for a five-point night. Alec Tzaneteas added two goals and two assists while JA Howland and Jake Calder each finished with a goal and an assist.

Goalie Dylan Abplanalp had eight saves in his 60 minutes of work.

SU won 13-of-21 face-offs and out-shot the Rangers 34-21. The Crusaders were also 3-of-5 on man-up opportunities.

Chet McLaughlin and Reardon scored back-to-back goals to open the game 2-0 in favor of SU. Drew responded with a goal at the 4:14 mark but Adam Fox closed out the quarter with an unassisted score for a 3-1 game at the end of the period.

The Rangers accounted for the only three goals of the second quarter to grab a 4-3 lead at halftime.

Drew also scored the first goal of the third quarter to put SU in a two-goal hole (5-3) at the 10:46 mark.

Susquehanna responded by scoring the next five goals of the game, the fifth of which came early in the fourth quarter and made it 8-5. Drew briefly closed the gap to two (8-6) with a goal at the 10:28 mark but the Crusaders scored three goals over the final 9:10 of the game to put the game away.

SU is back in action on March 30 with a 3 p.m. game at Messiah.
