SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University head men's lacrosse coach Stewart Moan has announced the selection of five captains for the upcoming 2016 season. The captains – all seniors – are Greg Budd, Adam Fox, Kade MacGregor, Nick Reardon and Corrie Van Haasteren.
Budd will lead the defensive midfield unit and returns as a starter at the short-stick defensive midfield position. Last season, Budd played in 15 games and scooped up 17 ground balls and had 12 points (9g, 3a) for the Crusaders. Budd boasts great speed and defensive skills that make him a valuable asset to the team.
Fox returns to lead SU on the defensive end. Fox played in 16 games last season and had three goals and 16 ground balls. Fox is a talented, athletic player who has improved each year and will be a strong presence on the defensive side of the field for the Crusaders.
MacGregor, who started all 16 games last season, had three points and led SU's team with 51 ground balls. He earned First-Team All-Landmark Conference honors and was a USILA All-American. MacGregor is one of the premier defensemen in the country and will have the responsibility of covering the opposing teams' best attackmen.
Reardon, who played in all 16 games a year ago, returns as last season's leading scorer with 35 points (21g, 14a) along with 15 ground balls. He is an extremely smart and crafty player at attack and is looking for another great season in 2016.
Van Haasteren, who started 15 games last spring, enters his second season as a team captain. Last year he had four points and 39 ground balls. Van Haasteren earned All-Landmark honors in 2014 and 2015 and looks to continue that success as another leader in the defensive end. Van Haasteren is an outstanding long-stick midfielder and will have the responsibility of covering the opposing teams' best midfielders.
