Season-Opening Win for Men’s Lacrosse

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team could not have asked for a much better start to its 2016 season as SU defeated Lycoming 13-4 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Seven players combined for the Crusader 13 goals and the Warriors (0-1) were blanked by the SU defense in both the first and fourth quarters.

Alec Tzaneteas led all players with four goals while Chet McLaughlin had two goals and three assists. Nick Reardon added one goal and a game-high five assists. Kade MacGregor tallied four ground balls and had three caused turnovers. Susquehanna also won 14-of-20 face-offs.

Goalie Dylan Abplanalp recorded eight saves in his first collegiate game.

It took Jake Calder 63 seconds to score his team's first goal of the season. Susquehanna (1-0) went on to score three more goals over a 7:41 span in the first quarter to go up 4-0 after 15 minutes of action.

McLaughlin and Tzaneteas scored at the 12:44 and 12:06 marks of the second quarter. Lycoming did not get on the board until 10:42 remained in the half and the Crusaders went on to take that 6-1 lead into halftime.

The Warriors accounted for three of the five goals scored in the third quarter but still trailed SU 8-4 heading into the final 15 minutes of the game.

Tzaneteas kicked-off what would be five-goal fourth quarter for Susquehanna with a goal at the 12:53 mark. Four different players scored the final four goals of the half with Corrie Van Haasteren's goal with 4:17 to play marking the 13th and final goal of the afternoon for SU.

The Crusaders open their home season on Wednesday, Feb. 24 with a 4 p.m. game against Muhlenberg.
