Men’s Lacrosse Wins Home Opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Nearly two and a half hours of lightning delays did not put a damper on the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team as the squad won its home opener 12-7 against Muhlenberg to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Crusaders were led by Alec Tzaneteas who totaled four goals and one assist while Adam Fox followed with three goals and Jake Calder two. Nick Reardon contributed three assists.

Jake Purnell went 9-of-13 on face offs and picked up seven ground balls while Pierce Mead went 5-7 on face offs and totaled three ground balls.

In the first quarter, SU struck first by scoring two goals in less than two minutes. The first came from Tzaneteas at the 14:12 mark and the second came from Reardon with 12:32 on the clock. Muhlenberg (0-1) answered with five of its own goals to take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter.

Calder scored 16 seconds into the second quarter to bring SU within two. Another goal by Calder with 5:22 on the clock pulled the Crusaders within one (5-4) but with 2:50 remaining in the half, the Mules scored to take a two goal lead (6-4). Tzaneteas scored with at the 1:51 mark to send SU into the half down by one (6-5).

Susquehanna's defense held Muhlenberg to only one more goal for the remainder of the game and the Crusaders out-scored the Mules 7-1 over the last two quarters to earn the 12-7 win.

SU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 when the team hosts King's College (Pa.) for a 1:00 p.m. game.
