Overtime Road Win for Men’s Lacrosse

CONWAY, Ark. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team used two fourth-quarter goals to force overtime against Hendrix College and Nick Reardon's unassisted, game-winning goal at the 3:05 mark of the first overtime period handed the Crusaders a 6-5 victory.

Reardon's overtime goal was of his third on the day and he also added an assist for a four-point day. Andrew Porzio and Chet McLaughlin accounted for the other two SU goals.

Freshman goalie Dylan Abplanalp racked up 20 saves in his nearly 62 minutes of play and gave up only five goals, three of which came in the first half.

SU's defense forced 17 Hendrix turnovers and Susquehanna put 22 of its 30 shots on goal.

The Warriors (2-5) scored midway through the first quarter before the Crusaders (4-1) scored twice in the final 51 seconds of the period on goals from Reardon and Porzio that handed SU a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. Hendrix netted the only two goals of the second quarter, though, to take a 3-2 lead into halftime.

Corrie Van Haastern tied the game at three just three minutes into the third quarter but the Warriors scored with just one second remaining in the period to take a 4-3 edge heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Hendrix's Alex Ortenstone made it 5-3 with an unassisted goal 52 seconds into the fourth quarter. Reardon responded with a goal at the 11:01 mark to make it 5-4 and McLaughlin knotted it at five with a man-up goal at the 1:19 mark which remained the score as the clock hit zero, forcing overtime.

Reardon came through with a hat trick when his goal at the 3:05 mark gave the Crusaders the win, their fourth of the season.

SU remains on the road to face Rhodes College on Wednesday, March 9 at 3 p.m. CST.
