Offensive Outburst for Men’s Lacrosse

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A 24-goal outpouring by the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team guided the team to a 24-5 victory over visiting Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon.

The 24 goals were the most ever under ninth-year head coach Stewart Moan and improved SU's record to 6-1 on the season.

Four different players netted goals for the Crusaders with no player scoring more than three. Chet McLaughlin and Clayton Buescher had three goals apiece while James Harabedian had two goals and three assists.

Starting goalie Dylan Abplanalp had one save against three shots in his 30 minutes of action. Coleman Dieffenbach saw his first collegiate action and had four saves in his 30 minutes on the field.

The SU defense forced 11 Wilkes turnovers and limited the Colonels (0-4) to 25 shots while Susquehanna countered with 57 shots of its own. The Crusaders also won 27 of 33 face-offs.

SU opened the game on a 5-0 run with goals from three different players and the Crusaders led 7-1 as the first quarter came to a close.

Susquehanna's Jake Calder and Harabedian scored back-to-back goals to open the second quarter  and SU ended the quarter with three unanswered goals from three different players to take a 12-2 lead into halftime.

Goals from five different Crusaders in the third quarter gave the team a 17-3 lead as Wilkes was only able to net one goal in the period.

Susquehanna led 22-3 with nearly 10 minutes still to play in the final quarter. Wilkes scored two of the final four goals of the game but SU netted the final two goals of the game for the 24-5 final.

The Crusaders remain at home to host Elizabethtown on March 19 at 1 p.m. in the Landmark Conference opener for both squads.
