Three Straight Wins for Men’s Lacrosse

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team rallied from a 4-3 halftime deficit against Catholic to win 9-6 on the road, the squad's third-straight victory and 10th of the season.

SU (10-4, 3-1) scored six of its nine goals over the final 30 minutes of play while the defense limited the Cardinals (8-5, 2-2) to just two goals over the final three quarters of the game.

Nick Reardon led the team with three goals and is now four points shy of 100 for his career. Alec Tzaneteas had two goals and a game-high three assists while J.A. Howland added a goal and an assist.

Corrie Van Haasteren had two caused turnovers and five ground balls as the SU defense forced 15 Cardinals turnovers and held Catholic to a 0-for-2 effort in man-up opportunities. Susquehanna goalie Dylan Abplanalp had 13 saves.

Catholic opened the game with a 2-0 lead before Andrew Porzio and Tzaneteas countered with back-to-back goals to tie the game at four with 7:32 left in the quarter. The Cardinals out-scored SU 2-1 over the final four minutes of the quarter to take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.

Neither team scored in that second period, keeping it a 4-3 ballgame heading into the second half.

Susquehanna came out of halftime and scored three unanswered goals from three different players to grab a 6-4 edge. Catholic briefly pulled within one (6-5) with 2:09 to play in the quarter but Tzaneteas scored a man-up goal with 51 seconds remaining to make it 7-5 with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Reardon scored two of his three goals over an 80-second span early in the fourth quarter for a 9-5 lead. Catholic was again limited to just one goal which came late in the quarter and made it 9-6.

The Crusaders return home to host Goucher on April 23 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
