Senior Day Win for Men’s Lacrosse

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team sent off its 12 senior members with a 14-7 victory over visiting Goucher College on Saturday afternoon.

SU is now 11-4 overall with a 4-1 mark in Landmark Conference games. Saturday's victory also extended the team's win streak to four.

Jake Purnell broke a 2-2 tie with an unassisted score at the 6:13 mark of the first quarter and the Crusaders never looked back.

Purnell was one of eight different players to score in the victory. Alec Tzaneteas and Chet McLaughlin tied for the game high in goals with four apiece while Greg Rabiecki had three assists and one goal.

On the defensive side of the field, goalie Dylan Abplanalp tallied 19 saves in his 56:33 minutes of action while Corrie Van Haasteren had six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The Crusaders lost only three face-offs all afternoon and went 2-for-6 on man-up goals. SU also finished with 38 shots to Goucher's 26.

The teams traded goals to start the game before Purnell netted what proved to be the game-winning goal with roughly six minutes to play in the quarter. James Harabedian capped off the first-quarter scoring with a goal at the 5:20 mark to make it 4-2 after 15 minutes of play.

SU scored four of the five second-quarter goals. Tzaneteas and McLaughlin opened the period with back-to-back goals to make it 5-2 and McLaughlin ended the quarter with two man-up goals to give his team the 8-3 lead at halftime.

Each team scored twice in the third quarter to keep it a five-goal game, 10-5, heading into the final quarter of play.

The game was effectively put out of reach when SU opened the quarter with back-to-back-to-back goals that made it 13-5 with just 9:14 remaining.

While Goucher (8-6, 0-5) scored two of the final three goals of the game, SU easily held on for the 14-7 win.

The team concludes the regular season on Saturday, April 30 with a 12 p.m. game at USMMA.
