Men’s Lacrosse Defeats USMMA, Clinches No. 2 Seed

KING'S POINT, N.Y. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team is heading back to the Landmark Conference Tournament, securing the No. 2 seed with Saturday's 19-4 victory at USMMA. The Crusaders handed the Mariners their first home loss of the season in the process.

SU (11-4, 4-1) will host No. 3 seed Catholic on Wednesday, May 4 at 4 p.m. The Crusaders defeated the Cardinals 9-6 on the road on April 16.

Twelve different players combined for SU's 19 goals with Andrew Porzio and Jake Calder adding three apiece with each also contributing an assist. Alec Tzaneteas finished with two goals, one assist and six ground balls.

Susquehanna's defense held Merchant Marine (10-3, 3-2) without a goal for the first 29:10 of the game. Kade MacGregor had six ground balls and three caused turnovers and goalie Dylan Abplanalp finished with 11 saves in his 47:30 minutes of action.

Seven different players scored SU's seven first-quarter goals with Calder's score at the 1:45 mark of the quarter giving SU the 7-0 lead.

The Crusaders opened the second quarter with five more unanswered goals to take a 12-0 advantage with 3:52 still to play in the half. USMMA's Nick Treon scored a man-up goal at the 50-second mark to put his team on the board for the first time in the game and SU took that 12-1 lead into halftime.

Porzio and James Abramo scored back-to-back goals just 14 seconds apart to make it 14-1 in favor of SU at the 13:05 mark of the third quarter. Susquehanna strung together another stretch of three unanswered goals to make it 17-2 with 1:22 to play in the quarter. The Mariners' netted their second goal of the game with 16 seconds remaining the quarter to trail 17-3 heading into the final 15 minutes of the game.

SU accounted for the first two goals of the fourth quarter and held USMMA off the scoreboard until the last 45 seconds of were left in the game to come away with the 19-4 victory.
