Another Shutout for Men’s Soccer

YORK, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's soccer team picked up its fifth shutout of the season in the form a 0-0 draw against York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (1-1-3) clearly had the advantage in scoring opportunities, taking 20 shots while holding SU (3-2-2) to just seven, including only three over the final 65 minutes of play.

Pedro Souza [Sao Paolo, Brazil/Gunnery School (Conn.)], Ryan Donlevie (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) and David Trank (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) all had two shots to account for all but one of their team's shots.
Goalie Augusto Lima (Campinas, Brazil/Mercersburg Academy) played all 110 minutes and finished with six saves.

SU was held without a shot for the final 25 minutes of the first half but Lima came up with a stop on a Matt Freibaum shot with 17 seconds left in the period to keep it 0-0 at halftime.

York had four shots, one on goal, in the final 7:30 of regulation but obviously none found the back of the net, thus forcing overtime.

The Crusaders had no scoring threats in the first overtime period and a shot by York's Greg Bechard with 36 ticks left on the clock sailed wide.

In the second and final overtime period, Souza had a shot with just under five minutes to play but that ultimately marked SU's final shot of the game and York's final two shots were wide of goal to end the game in a 0-0 tie.

Susquehanna remains on the road to face Lebanon Valley on Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
