Men’s Soccer Falls to Conference Foe Scranton

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's soccer team fell 1-0 to conference rival Scranton on Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove.

The game was scoreless for the first 79 minutes of the action but the Royals (6-2-1, 1-0-0) struck late and held on for the shutout of the Crusaders (4-5-2, 0-2-0).

SU's Nick Fecci (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) led the team with five shots but the Crusaders were out-shot 18-15 by Scranton. Susquehanna goalie Augusto Lima (Campinas, Brazil/Mercersburg Academy) did come up with nine saves, including seven in the scoreless first half.

The Crusaders had just five shots in the first half and were held without a shot for the final 22:30 of the period. Scranton, though, had just three shots over that same span and could not convert on a corner kick with eight minutes to play, keeping it 0-0 at the half.

SU doubled its shot total from the first half over the final 45 minutes of play. Fecci's shot in the 52nd minute hit the crossbar and Joe DeLuca (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) missed a penalty kick in the 63rd minute when Royals goalie Eric Hintz came up with the stop.

Hintz came up with two more saves before teammate Pat Codispoti broke the scoreless tie with a header at the 79:02 mark.

Fecci had two of Susquehanna's final three shots in the game but both went wide and the Royals held on for the win.

The Crusaders return to action on Oct. 4 with a 1 p.m. game at Landmark Conference opponent Drew.
