Two-Goal Second Half Sinks Men’s Soccer

MADISON, N.J. – A late goal by the homestanding Drew Rangers sealed the fate of the Susquehanna men's soccer team, who lost 3-1 in a Landmark Conference game on Saturday. Benjamin Audl of Drew (6-2-4, 2-0) scored his second tally of the afternoon in the 88th minute to put the game out of reach.

The Crusaders (4-6-2, 0-3) fell behind early when Audl found the back of the net at 12:43 off of a deflected rebound.

After playing catch-up for the most of the half, SU was able to find the equalizer in the 38th minute when Jake Heyser (Westmont, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) headed home a free kick from Matt Roberts (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) for his first career goal.

Although the teams went into half at 1-1, the tie did not last long as Drew scored just seven minutes in the second for a lead it would not relinquish.

Opportunities came in the form of shots on goal by Nick Fecci (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) and Gannon Keller (Selinsgrove, Pa. /Selinsgrove Area/Bloomsburg), but both were turned away by keeper Michael Reyes.

On the other end, Zach Zoller (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) made two saves of his own to keep the deficit at one.

The late dagger from Audl, who found the back of the net off an assist from Eduardo Martinez, capped the scoring for the Rangers. The Crusaders earned a corner kick in the last moments of the game but an offside call ended the threat.

Susquehanna looks to bounce back with a conference win when it hosts Elizabethtown on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
