Men’s Soccer Falls 3-1 to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Nick Fecci (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) scored a goal for the second consecutive game, but it was not enough to guide the Susquehanna men's soccer team past Gettysburg on Tuesday evening.

The Bullets (8-4-1) jumped ahead early, finding the back of the net twice in the first 16 minutes of action. Henry Smith scored on a header and Marc Franco took advantage of a rebound off a corner kick.

The 2-0 lead did not stand for long, however, as SU pulled within one when Fecci beat the keeper to the upper left on a shot from outside the box.

Gettysburg regained some breathing room just 10 minutes later behind a chip shot goal from Parker Delmolino. The Crusaders had a chance to gain ground before the half, but two shots from Jake Heyser (Westmont, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) in the 43rd minute were stopped by the Bullets' keeper.

The second half was not the same high-scoring affair as the first and featured a combined three shots on goal. Brennan Colby (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) had the lone try for SU and was turned away in the 50th minute.

Gettysburg nearly increased its lead to 4-1 in the 78th minute after a scramble in front of the net, but a blocked shot and a save by Justin Robertiello (Chester, N.J./Mendham), who made three in his first start of the season, kept the lead at two.

Both teams finished with 13 shots and SU held a 7-3 advantage in corners taken.

The team looks to end its five-game losing streak with a road win over Landmark opponent Moravian on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
