Men’s Soccer Falls to Catholic on Senior Day

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Susquehanna men's soccer team was blanked, 3-0, by the visiting Catholic Cardinals on Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference contest. The Crusaders, who honored their six seniors before the game, fell to 0-7 in conference while Catholic improved to 5-1-1 in the Landmark.

The six members from the class of 2015 who were honored were Joe DeLuca, (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) Ryan Donlevie (Stratham, N.H./Exeter), Nick Talabiska (Lewisburg, Pa./-), Gannon Keller (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area/Bloomsburg), David Trank (Mendham, N.J /West Morris Mendham), and Zach Zoller (Wall Township, N.J./Wall).

The visitors jumped ahead early behind a seventh-minute goal from Ben Fleri, who beat goalkeeper Zoller after collecting a loose ball in front of the net. Zoller finished with five saves on 21 shots faced.

The best chances of the half for SU came right around the 29th-minute mark when DeLuca registered two shots on goal in quick succession, but was turned away by Catholic keeper Torsten Meuschke.

After halftime, Catholic increased its lead with a goal at 52:46 from Hunter Horvath. Trank fired two more shots on goal in the following minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net.

The visiting Cardinals capped the scoring with a header goal in the 70th minute off a corner kick. Although Catholic held a 21-14 advantage in total shots, both teams finished with six corner kicks taken.

SU concludes its season on the road when it visits Landmark opponent Goucher on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
