SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's soccer team defeated the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College 4-1 at home Wednesday night.
The game was scoreless until 13:39 in the first half when SU's (3-3) Brandon Jackson (Sturges, Pa. / Valley View) scored his first goal of the season, unassisted, putting the Crusaders up 1-0.
The score would remain 1-0 until ten minutes into the second half when back to back goals for the Crusaders put them ahead 3-0. The first goal was unassisted from Ryan Cronin (Andover, N.J. / Newton) while the second came 30 seconds later from Elias George (Watsontown, Pa. / Warrior Run) with an assist by Eric Dempsey (Danville, Pa. / Danville Area).
A minute later the Dutchmen (0-5) answered with a goal from Alex Detweiler, assisted by John McHale but it would be their only goal.
SU scored one more goal on a penalty kick by Nick Fecci (Point Pleasant, N.J. / Point Pleasant) putting the game further out of reach for Lebanon Valley.
The Crusaders totaled 14 shots to Lebanon Valley's 10 with Cronin leading SU with four. Jake Heyser (Westmont, N.J. / Bishop Eustace Prep) tallied 3 shots while George and Garian Lashley (Aurora, Ontario / Bill Crothers Secondary) contributed with two each. Goalie Augusto Lima (Campinas, Brazil / Mercersburg Academy) (3-3) made three saves on four shots on goal to earn the win.
Susquehanna tallied six corner kicks while Lebanon Valley had three.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, September 19 at Merchant Marine for the first conference game of the season.
