Men’s Soccer Wins Conference Opener

KING'S POINT, N.Y. – The Susquehanna men's soccer team defeated U.S. Merchant Marine 2-1 in New York in its Landmark Conference opener.

USMMA (5-2, 0-1) struck to go up 1-0 but 24 minutes into the second half, the Crusaders tied the game when Ryan Cronin (Andover, N.J. / Newton) scored with a driving shot to the left past the goalie off of a pass from the top right of the box  from Eric Dempsey (Danville, Pa. / Danville Area).

At 83:32, a shot off the goal post and in by Dempsey put the Crusaders up 2-1 and would turn out to be the winning goal. Dempsey was assisted by Maxfield Reed (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area).

SU was led in shots by Elias George (Watsontown, Pa. / Warrior Run), Cronin and Dempsey who tallied three shots each. Goalie Augusto Lima (Campinas, Brazil / Mercersburg Academy) made five saves on six shots on goal to earn the win.

The Crusaders tallied eight corner kicks to USMMA's four.

SU returns to action Wednesday, September 23 at Wilkes.
