SU Men’s Soccer Wins on Senior Day to Extend Season

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's soccer team defeated Goucher on Senior Day to earn a spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament.

SU clinches the No. 3 seed and will travel to No. 2 seed Scranton on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

SU (8-6-2, 3-2-2) scored the only two goals of the game to defeat the Gophers of Goucher College. The Crusaders out-shot the Gophers 15-4 and totaled seven corner kicks to Goucher's four.

Both goals came in the second half. The first goal came at the 54:37 mark when freshman Max Reed scored his first goal of the season off of an assist from senior Sam Tana. Reed then went on to score his second goal of the season off of an assist from Jake Heyser to give the Crusaders the 2-0 lead with a little more than two minutes (87:39) to go in the game. Neither team took a shot for the rest of the game.

"Today's victory was huge in many ways," stated head coach Jim Findlay. "Not only did it mean a berth in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament but it also represented an unbelievable turnaround from a year ago. Last year, our program finished in last place and now we find ourselves in tie for second.  We are looking forward to being back in the playoffs and we will now prepare for a difficult road game against the University of Scranton."

The Crusaders were led in shots by Reed who totaled five, four of which were on goal. Pedro Souza tallied three goals while Tana contribute two. Goalie Augusto Lima faced two shots on goal and made two saves to earn the shutout.

Before the start of the game Susquehanna honored the six senior members of the team: Augusto Lima, Brandon Jackson, Paul Siekmann, Pedro Souza, Samuel Tana and Sean Leister.
